Study Road traffic you hear is linked to a higher obesity risk

Study Road besucherzahlen you hear is linked to a higher obesity riskStudy Road traffic you hear is linked to a higher obesity riskWhat causes our weight to fluctuate up? We may point fingers at the food we eat, the sleep we do not get, the exercise we do not do, but a new study inEnvironment Internationallinks obesityto an unsuspecting source - road traffic noise.Long-term exposure to road traffic increases risk of obesityIf you live in a bustling metropolis, your everyday soundtrack is bound to be filled with the melody of honks, rumbling motors, and car screeches. This can cause unseen havoc to our bodies, the new research suggests.Through participation from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, the researchers assessed 3796 adults who took part in the population-based study and measured their weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, and abdominal fat, in addition to their exposure to transportation noise. Our analysis shows that people exposed to the highest lev els of traffic noise are at greater risk of being obese ISGlobal research Maria Foraster, one of the studys authors, said in a statement. For example, we observed that a 10 dB increase in mean noise level was associated with a 17% increase in obesity.Even participants who did their best to limit their exposure by closing windows at night or having the bedroom facing the backyard did not have changed results, suggesting that sustained exposure to road traffic has a greater influence on us than individual actions we can do.Something in particular with road traffic gets us our internal systems going. The researchers also examined what happened when participants got exposed to aircraft and railway traffic noise and did not find significant associations, except for a link between long-term exposure to railway noise and being overweight. The study did not look into what causes the link between road traffic noise and obesity, but ISGlobal suggests that it is because noise stresses us out, wh ich in turn limits our sleep and can increase our risk of obesity. The best way to reverse these effects? Go to the source and limit traffic noise. Our findings suggest that reducing traffic-related noise could also be a way of combating the obesity epidemic,Foraster said.

How to Get a Job Through a Staffing Agency

How to Get a Job Through a Staffing AgencyHow to Get a Job Through a Staffing AgencySome job seekers dont want to use a staffing agency because they think these agencies only provide entry-level, temporary jobs. Others think that agencies never provide benefits to workers. None of this is true. A job seeker can use a staffing agency (also known as an employment agency or staffing company) to find a wide variety of jobs, including permanent jobs, in a number of industries. Staffing agencies hire everyone from entry-level workers to CEOs. Learn what a staffing agency is, and how to use one to find the right job for you. How a Staffing Agency Works At a staffing agency, companies pay the agency to find employees for them. Job seekers can apply to specific jobs through the staffing agency, or can simply contact the staffing agency looking for a job. The agency interviews the job seekers and places them in appropriate positions. Typically, the agency then pays the selected candidate t o work for the client company. If the company decides to hire the job seeker permanently, the staffing agency will no longer pay the job seeker. The employee will instead be paid by the company. Benefits There are many benefits to using a staffing agency to find a job. Some benefits include Its Free Because the company (rather than the job seeker) is the client, you dont have to pay to be considered for jobs at an agency. They Do the Job Searching for You When you sign up to work with a staffing agency, they ask you about your skills and experience and let you know if they have a job that might be a good fit for you. You can also search for jobs on their internal job site. Often, they know of job openings that arent available on other job sites. It is a great way to get help finding job openings. There Is Variety You can find staffing agencies that specialize in almost any industry. You can also find different types of jobs within almost any staffing agency. Jobs range from very short-term positions (as little as a couple of weeks) to permanent positions. There Are Often Benefits Some staffing agencies provide benefits after employees have worked a certain number of days or hours. unterstellung benefits may include health insurance, a retirement plan, or even tuition reimbursement (or all three). They Give You Feedback Most staffing agencies provide you with feedback throughout the job application process. They might give you tips on how to revise your resume or provide advice on how to successfully interview. This kind of free feedback is invaluable. Types of Available Jobs Some people think staffing agencies only fill temporary secretarial and administrative jobs, but this is notlage the case. You can find a job in almost every industry through a staffing agency. Some staffing agencies (including Kelly Services and Adecco) work with all kinds of companies, while others specialize in particular industries. Medical Solutions, for example, focuses on heal thcare jobs. TEKsystems staffs companies with IT hires. Agencies also offer jobs that last for varying lengths of time. These include Temporary Jobs Companies often look for temporary hires to help during an employees absence or period of leave, or during a busy work period. Sometimes they hire temporary workers to complete a particular project. These temporary jobs range in length from a couple of weeks to many months.Temp-to-Hire Jobs Also known as temp-to-perm jobs, these positions begin as temporary jobs so that the company can get to know the employee on a trial basis. Then, if the company is happy with the employees work, they will likely hire him or her directly. While the staffing agency will typically pay for the worker during the temporary phase, the company will then take over paying the employee when he or she becomes a full-time hire. Permanent Jobs Some staffing agencies hire candidates for permanent positions at companies. In these situations, the agency works more li ke a traditional recruiter, finding, interviewing, and selecting candidates for the company. In this case, the company pays the agency a fee. If the company hires an employee, they pay for the employee. Many agencies offer a variety of all three of these kinds of jobs, although some specialize. For example, Frontline Source Group focuses on hiring temporary workers. How to Find the Right Staffing Agency for You When you are looking for a staffing agency to work with, make sure you know the kinds of industries the agency deals with, and whether they offer temporary, temp-to-hire, or permanent jobs- or all three. Check out the American Staffing Associations online directory to find reputable staffing firms. You can search for firms in your area. You can also search by employment options (temporary, long-term, etc.) and industry. When you interview with a staffing agency, feel free to ask questions. Ask about what benefits (if any) they offer, what kinds of jobs they typically fill , the industries they work with, and the average time it takes for a job seeker to land a job. The recruiter you work with is there to help you, so dont be afraid to gather all the information you need. Check into whether or not the agency has any services, such as workshops to help you develop skills or counselors who will help you with your resume and cover letter. If these are available, take advantage of them. Also, keep in mind that you should never have to pay a staffing agency to help you find a job. Reputable staffing agencies are paid by companies, not by job seekers. Tips for Landing a Job Treat it Like a Real Interview The staffing agency will likely set up an interview with you to get a better sense of your skills and experience. Treat this interview exactly as you would an interview with a company. Dress appropriately and show up on time- early, if possible. Listen attentively and use positive body language to convey your attention and interest. Introduce yourself w ith afirm handshake. Bring your resume and be ready to answer common interview questions. You might also be asked to complete a skills assessment to test your hard skills, so be prepared for this as well. Be Honest Be honest about your goals, whether its to land a permanent position, maintain flexibility, or to develop some skills that will make you an attractive candidate for your next full-time job. Also, be honest about your availability. If you are only available on weekdays, for example, tell this to the recruiter at the staffing agency. Finally, be honest about your employment history. If you have an employment gap, for example, tell the recruiter. He or she can help you figure out how to explain this to an employer. Keep an Open Mind Even if you want a full-time position, consider being open to temporary jobs or contract work. These can help you develop skills that might be useful when you apply for your next full-time job. If you impress an employer, he or she might try to f ind you a full-time position at the company.Follow UpSend an emailed or handwritten noteto thank the interviewers at the staffing agency for their time and to reinforce your interest in finding a position.Be Persistent and PatientIf you applied for a job through a staffing agency and havent heard back, follow up within a week. Perhaps you were not right for that specific job, but a recruiter might be able to find something else that fits your skill set. Check in with any staffing firm youve contacted once a week to remind them of your interest and demonstrate your eagerness. Use Other Resources You do not have to put all your eggs in one basket. While you wait to hear back from the agency, continue to job search on your own. Check out job boards and job search engines and network with people in your industry. However, be open with your recruiter- tell him or her if you apply to any jobs on your own and if you are working with a second staffing agency. This way your recruiter will no t submit you for a job that you already applied for (in some cases, an employer will remove your application if he or she sees it twice). When You Get a Job, Prepare When you receive an assignment, the agency will provide you with information as to whom to report, dress code, hours, wages, and a description of the duties and duration of the job. You might also need to do a second interview with the company. If you dont receive all of this information, ask the agency for all of this information. You Can Say No If you truly feel a position is not a good fit- perhaps the hours do not work for you, or the pay is well below what you need- be honest with the recruiter. Explain to him or her why you dont want the position. It will help the recruiter find you a job that is a better fit in the future.

Engineering Thrills from Cedar Point Rides

Engineering Thrills from Cedar Point Rides Engineering Thrills from Cedar Point Rides Engineering Thrills from Cedar Point RidesCedar Point theme parks newest attraction is Steel Vengeance, a thrilling adrenaline-inducing steel-on-wood roller coaster that has a 205-foot initial drop, four inversions, and 30 seconds of airtime, making it the tallest, fastest, and longest hyper-hybrid coaster in the world.Matt Schmotzer, a systems engineer at Ford Motor Company and rollercoaster enthusiast, has succeeded in 3D printing a fully functional model replica of Steel Vengeance in his garage. Some people have model train sets and I have roller coasters. I do this as a hobby to continue innovating outside of the workplace, Schmotzer said. The maker movement inspired me to take anything in your mind and create it. 3D-printing helps you achieve that goal.ASMEs Top Story 6 Ways Engineers Heal a Broken HeartSchmotzer first decided to combine his deep passion for roller coasters and 3D printing when he was enrolled as a graduate student in mechanical engineering at Purdue University, where he built a 125 scale 3D-printed replica of the Invertigo roller coaster at Kings Island amusement park in Ohio.I have actually made three other static roller coaster models previously out of balsa wood, hot glue, and plastic tubing, he said. This was my first project that I designed entirely in CAD to be built using additive manufacturing.Schmotzer designs the rides using the NoLimits roller coaster simulator. The simulator is pretty much similar to a video game, but it has a great function as you can export the ride layout into XYZ data points that can be brought back into Solidworks, Schmotzer said. The software helps me make the skeleton into an assembly that can then be 3D printed, laser cut, or CNC milled.Listen to the latest episode of ASME TechCast Breakthrough Could Bring New Cancer TreatmentIn a real roller coaster there are cement footers that hold the sttze structures.I took the ply wood sheets and cut the holes out for the footers in a machine laser, Schmotzer said. Then I build the support structures made from 3D-printed joints. The track which holds the rails is also 3D printed. He uses different kinds of 3D printers to turn his ideas into reality. It comes down to resolution and build volume, he said. The track pieces get quite large so I use the LulzBot, as it has a large build volume. Formlabs is used for high-res parts that I need for the trains. Each machine has its purpose. He also uses Arduino microcontrollers to control the DC motors.More 3D Printing Applications Solving World Hunger with 3D-Printed FoodSchmotzers latest project is Batman the Ridea series of roller coasters based on the 1989 superhero film. With 86 track sections and more than 128 supports each, the part creation took about 400 hours. Once ready, the roller coaster was assembled onsite at Solidworks World 2019, and soon drew attention of the attendees.Upon completion, Steel Vengeance s et 10 world records. So my wife, a computer scientist, combined a series a macros with an executable file to automate the track-splicing process. What used to take three weeks of manual effort on Invertigo is now just a button click on Batman the Ride.So which ride will he build next? How to Escape the Online Job Board Black Hole

How to Escape the Online Job Board Black HoleHow to Escape the Online Job Board Black HoleINBOX I absolutely HATE the career software used by most companies, because it forces you to put in required fields like date of birth and year of graduation. But Im elend landseeing a way to get around this effectively. Do you have any thoughts?Yes. Whats important to bear in mind here is that job boards give you a 2% chance of landing an interview and thats not even saying anything about the 2nd interview, 3rd interview, and hearing an offer. So, if your job search plan is founded on filling in all the online form fields, then clicking apply or submit, youre going to be stuck in this cycle for a long time. Lets face it, when youre forced to put in all your dates, its easy to do some quick math, and then youre out plain and simple. Instead, lets concentrate on the right strategies you can use starting today to make your job search mora fruitful, yield a higher number of contacts, multiple int erviews, and multiple offers. The Job Boards Arent Even Step 1Its normal and natural when youre kicking off your job search to want to sit down at the computer, hop around the Internet, and fire off some resumes. Its easy. Its quick. Its what everybody does. And guess what, everybody = your competition = the masses. This is precisely where you do not want to be.The 1st step in a job search process that works is for you to sit down and think. Think about who you want to work for. Think about what employers are within a commutable distance from your home. Think about what organizations have operating functions for which your expertise is a match. Then, build a list of 20-25 targets.Only 20-25? But doesnt this mean Im limiting myself and missing out on opportunities? To that, the answer is a resounding, yes You are limiting yourself. You are missing out on opportunities. However, change limit in your mind to focus. Where you focus is where you will find what you want. Additionally, the opportunities youre missing out on arent for you. Everything is not for everybody. Dont concern yourself with every opportunity. Concentrate on the roles that most closely align with your particular brand of skills and expertise.Step 2 Next, Consult The Job BoardsTreat the job boards as a place to research information. What they provide you with is a window into whos hiring right now. It doesnt necessarily matter if a company is advertising for your specific function if theyre advertising at all, theyre hiring. Find out if the companies you put on your list are hiring.Be a ninja and take this 1 step further use Google nachrichtensendung to uncover media stories about the companies you like. See if theyre growing in any way, such as building a new division in your city, launching a new product or innovation, or recently claimed an industry honor or award. All of these are indicators that the company is continuing to be on the way up. When a company is in growth mode, theyre hiring.S tep 3 Network I Know You Hate This, So Im Going To Make It Better For YouThe part of networking you hate is the part where you have to approach strangers, you dont know what to say, what you end up saying sounds like youre desperate and begging, and the person doesnt even respond to you. I get that. So, lets change it.Do you know the easiest way to turn a stranger into not-a-stranger? Care about them in plain old human being fashion. Your 1st approach needs to be something that has do with that person. What do you see about them on LinkedIn? Did they write an article that you found insightful, funny, or noteworthy? Did they share a post that you can make a comment on? Something about them needs to be the 1st sentence in your invitation to connect. Secondly, mention what your expertise is. Third, say youd like to connect, in case theres anything you may be able to do for them in the future.Put yourself on the flip side of this exchange for a moment what sounds better, Hello. I see you work at IBM. Thats a dynamic company that Id like to break in to. Do you have any contacts for me?OrHi Steve.
